The wooden beams, tiled roofs and courtyards of traditional Korean houses make the accommodation an attraction in itself. Enjoy the architecture and mountain scenery during the day, then gather for a barbecue at night. It is a good way for families or friends to experience a relaxed stay on the outskirts.
Ms Karyl's firsthand tips
The hanok is spacious and has plenty of bathrooms, and its traditional wooden architecture gives it a distinctly Korean atmosphere. It is well equipped and convenient for larger groups traveling together.
Before booking, confirm the guest capacity, the layout of the rooms and bathrooms, and whether the barbecue grill, charcoal and ingredients are included. Bring warm jackets for outdoor dining in winter.
If you want to combine traditional Korean accommodation, family gatherings and nearby attractions in one itinerary, a hanok stay can be more memorable than simply returning to a hotel to sleep.
